Every August in my beloved Medellín, we celebrate La Feria de las Flores or Flower Festival.
The first festival took place on March 1st, 1957. It has grown into one of the most important events in Colombia to bring in both national and international tourists to the “City of Eternal Spring.”
As a paisa myself, I felt that I had to do some sort of tributeto my paisa roots. This is an arriero, a man who used to travel the mountains of Antioquia for town to town carrying news, goods, medicine or sometimes as a simple traveler looking for fortune and adventure.
I hope one day those who have a bad image about Medellín can come to the Flower Festival and see first hand the other side of my city, the one we are very proud of but very few people talk about.
